Our approach

We write our own guides and respect the rights of copyright owners. If you believe something on this site uses your copyrighted work without permission, please tell us and we will look into it promptly.

What a notice should include

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) (external site)) lists what a notice of claimed infringement should contain. The form on this page collects each item:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name in the form counts as an electronic signature).
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed.
  3. Identification of the material on this site, with enough detail (such as the page address) for us to find it.
  4. Your contact information — at least an email address, and optionally a mailing address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner.

Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can create liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f) (external site). If you are unsure whether a use is infringing, consider getting legal advice first.

What happens next

  1. We acknowledge your notice by email.
  2. We review it, and if it is complete and appears valid we remove or disable access to the material.
  3. We tell you what we did. If we need more information, we will ask.

Counter-notices

All content on this site is written by our own team, so there is normally no third-party uploader to notify. If you believe material was removed by mistake, contact us through this page with the details and we will review it.
